Launch night
The festival will launch on Tuesday, 20 September at the Frankston Arts Centre with presentations from the Carbon Warrior and Mike Hill. Entry is free and the event starts at 7pm. The enviroshop has kindly donated a Bokashi Bucket Kit (household food waste composting system) as a door prize.
The presentation from Ros Buzza and Cade Motteram of the Carbon Warrior will cover:
- Introduction to greenhouse gases (including the reporting practicalities and implications)
- Details of the proposed carbon tax (including effect on individuals)
- The Carbon Farming Initiative (and how it will interact with the carbon tax)
- Risk management under a carbon price
- Opportunities available to businesses as a result of the carbon tax


Mike Hill will speak about the roles that local government, business and the community can play to make Frankston a greener place to work and live. Mike has three decades of close involvement with local government including:
- Eight years as a Councillor with the former City of Brunswick of which he was Mayor in 1988
- Nine years as CEO of the Victorian Local Governance Association of which he was a foundation member and its first life member
- Three years as a Councillor with Moreland City Council of which he was the first Mayor in 1996
- Designing, chairing and implementing for the past six years the Victorian Local Sustainability Accord (Accord) which aligns local and state government sustainability and climate change action, and provides local sustainability advice to the Minister for the Environment (currently serving as Accord Director)
- Ten years as foundation chair of the Moreland Energy Foundation, retiring in December 2010
- Ongoing support and consultancy work with the local government sector and specific local governments especially in the areas of sustainability, governance, community development and consultation and engagement

Mike has a longstanding involvement in the environment movement. He is:
- Chair, ECO-Buy Limited, a Centre for Excellence in Environmental Purchasing
- Deputy chair, Sustainability Victoria
- Chair, Natural Resources Conservation League
- Member of advisory committee, Centre for Design at RMIT University
- Member of various environment NGOs and a participant in mentoring programs for future environmental leaders
- Former board member, Environment Protection Board, Victoria
In his business life, Mike is co-director of WestWyck a company developing an eco-housing project on a former school site in Brunswick West. Mike acts as a consultant for a number of organisations and agencies.
